Steven Allen Spielberg born on December 18, 1946, to an engineer involved in developing computers became an inspiration to all the aspiring film makers or film making students by showcasing his immense talent in all his works. During his initial periods of struggle, he was being rejected by most of the film schools. He states through his life that failures cannot stop a person longing for something.
He continued with his work and then got a chance in Universal Studios. "Jaws" was the first film which gave him extreme popularity as a director. After that, he has been making all commercially successful as well as artistically significant movies.

STORY  DIVIDED INTO  SET UP/INCITING INCIDENT, PLOT POINT 1, CLIMAX, RESOLUTION

Set up / Inciting Incident
As per the book of Syd field Inciting incident is nothing but an interesting start of the movie. Hence if we analyze the movie Extra Terrestrial there has been an interest from the beginning when the Alien couldn't join others and is left on the Earth. Also, the character Elliot is made clear by the first scene where he is badly wanted to play with his brother and other friends of him. Also, a back story of his father being separated is revealed during the talk with his mother.

Camera (Outstanding works): Use of color purple symbolizes the imagination of human mind which has been used immensely in this movie. This is the difference of a master director and an ordinary one. As the directors like Steven Spielberg will try to communicate with everything which they have inside the frame.

As the first accidental meet with the alien is happening behind the grass but it could not be considered as plot point 1 because the plot point is always determined by the Climax of the movie.
As the Climax of the movie is Elliot taking Alien to the forest escaping him from the custody of government to the spaceship back to ET's home.


Plot point 1
Plot point 1 of the movie is when Elliot decides to make the Alien stay in his house. As the need of Elliot to make the alien stay with him is shown through the setup ie Elliot feeling lonely without any friends though he has one elder brother and small sister.  If the child would not be Elliot then he would have behaved in a different way. For example, he would call police or tell to mother etc. But the conversation at the dining table with mother also influenced him not to tell her because she would help the government to catch ET.

POINT OF NO RETURN

When E.T see the phone and expresses his feeling to go home or contact his people to  Elliot which is the incident leading to the climax.

Climax 

Climax of the film is when Elliot escapes him from the Nasa people and takes him to the place where the spaceship was supposed to land to take back ET to the home.

Comedy is the most economical and popular entertainment loved by most of the people in the world and Steven Spielberg always note the fact to make most of his films with this element of entertainment in it. Hence he is a universal director.
